U.S. Demand, Sales & Market Share
Hyundai has anticipated and nimbly responded to market trends and growing consumer demand in the U.S., with record sales of 703,007 in 2012 – an 8.9 percent increase from 2011. In 2010, we achieved a 24 percent increase in sales compared to 2009. And leading up to this milestone, between 2001 and 2009, we more than doubled our market share, which in 2011 accounted for 5.1 percent of the U.S. auto market.
Hyundai is assuring continued job creation and investment in the U.S. by manufacturing our three most popular American models here: the Sonata, which led our 2012 sales with more than 230,605 units sold (up 2 percent); the Elantra, with more than 202,034 units sold in 2012 (up 8.5 percent); and the Santa Fe, whose production recently was moved from Hyundai’s Alabama to Kia’s Georgia plant to facilitate Elantra production in Alabama.
